• What do I need to legally drive a ATV in Alberta?

  If you are driving an ATV on public land (not private property) you will need all of the following: 

  • Class 5 driver's license
  • ATV insurance
  • ATV registration
  • A helmet

• How much does it cost to register an ATV?

  To register an ATV in Alberta, you'll need an "off highway vehicle registration" which costs around $55 annually. 

• How much does it cost to insure an ATV?

  Like most things in insurance, there usually isn't an exact answer to "how much does it cost to insure". Depending on your own risk profile, the coverage you need, and the value of your machine, your premium can vary quite substantially.

  For older ATV's with the standard $2 million in liability coverage, you're likely to spend between $150-$300 a year.

  For newly financed ATV's that requires collision, comprehensive, and liability coverage, premiums can run between $800-$2,000 annually or even beyond that depending on the value of your machine.

• What kind of insurance do I need for a ATV?

  In order to drive on public lands, you will need liability insurance. At Armour Insurance we recommend no less than $2 million in liability coverage. 

  For protection against fire, theft, and vandalism, you can add comprehensive coverage to your ATV insurance policy. 

  For protection for your physical machine against collision or accidents, you can get collision coverage on your ATV. 

• Are my ATV accessories covered too?

  Accessories are not typically covered solely by an ATV insurance policy. However, you can get your accessories covered on the insurance policy by naming them. This can include coverage for:

  • Winches
  • GPS systems
  • Gun racks
  • Other ATV accessories
