St. Albert #1 on List of Top Places to Live in Canada

best-places-to-live-chartWhen you think about the best place to live in Canada you may assume that Vancouver or Toronto may be topping the list, but Money Sense's 2014 list doesn't name either of these cities in the top 3. St. Albert holds the honour of being Money Sense's 2014 Best place to live in Cananda.

St. Albert beat out 201 other communities in Canada to come in at #1.

"If you're looking for the best place in Canada to live, perhaps it's time to think small," MoneySense's Mark Brown wrote. "It's easy to think residing in a modest-sized town means giving up access to all the services and amenities you need or desire, but that doesn't have to be the case.

"Satellite communities around major centres are evolving to deliver small-town flare with big-city conveniences."

The magazine considers dozens of factors to determine what makes a city a "great place to live," including unemployment rates, taxes, income and home prices.

And when it comes to the big picture, west is best.

"The surge of the west is a prominent trend in our ranking," Brown wrote.
